Procurement

Does NNWI accept purchase orders (POs) and Net 30 terms from agencies?

Yes. NNWI has accepted purchase orders from law-enforcement agencies, HOAs, and municipalities for over 50 years. Net 30 terms are standard for established agency accounts.

To initiate a PO-based order, email your purchase order with shipping and billing details to customer_service@nnwi.org or call 1-888-NNWI-USA (1-888-669-4872). NNWI also accepts ACH, business check, and major credit cards.

Are NNWI signs available for tax-exempt government purchases?

Yes. NNWI processes tax-exempt orders for qualifying government agencies, public school districts, and 501(c)(3) organizations.

To place a tax-exempt order, submit your agency's tax exemption certificate to customer_service@nnwi.org along with your order. Once the certificate is on file, it applies to all future orders from that account.

What is NNWI's Federal Tax ID, and how do I get a W-9 for agency procurement?

NNWI's Federal Tax ID is 95-2859371.

To request a current W-9, vendor packet, or any other procurement documentation, email customer_service@nnwi.org. We typically respond within one business day with the documents your procurement office requires.

Can my agency purchase NNWI signs through a cooperative purchasing program?

NNWI signs are routinely purchased through state, county, and municipal procurement channels. Many agency purchasers use OMNIA Partners, Sourcewell, or state-specific cooperative purchasing programs to streamline procurement.

Email customer_service@nnwi.org to discuss your agency's preferred purchasing pathway — we work directly with your procurement office.

Product

What is the difference between reflective aluminum and reflective plastic signs?

Reflective aluminum signs use a 0.080-inch aluminum substrate laminated with engineer-grade 3M reflective sheeting. Rated for outdoor exposure of approximately 7 to 10 years. The standard choice for street-side installations subject to weather, impact, and UV exposure.

Reflective plastic signs use high-impact polystyrene with the same reflective sheeting. Rated for approximately 3 to 5 years. Suitable for shorter-term programs, interior building signage, or mild-climate installations.

For Sun Belt, coastal, or Northern winter environments, NNWI recommends aluminum.

What sign size should I order for street-side installation?

For street-side installation visible from a moving vehicle, NNWI recommends 18 × 24 inches or larger.

12 × 18 inches — residential street corners with low traffic speeds (25 mph and under).
18 × 24 inches — standard neighborhood streets, the most common agency order size.
24 × 36 inches — arterial roads, highway-adjacent neighborhoods, or installations requiring readability from 100 feet or more.
18 × 18 inches — HOA entrance monuments or building-mounted installations.

How long do NNWI signs last outdoors?

Standard reflective aluminum signs carry an expected service life of approximately 7 to 10 years under typical outdoor exposure.

Service life is affected by direct UV intensity, average annual temperature, salt-spray exposure (coastal installations), and physical impact damage. NNWI uses 3M engineer-grade reflective sheeting, which carries a separate 3M-issued material warranty.

Installation

Where can our neighborhood legally install Neighborhood Watch signs, and what placement strategy does NNWI recommend?

Sign installation is governed by the property owner and, where applicable, the public right-of-way authority.

Private property — HOA common areas, business properties, and residential lots — generally does not require a public permit.

Public right-of-way (streets, sidewalks, public utility poles) requires coordination with your city or county public works department and may require a sign permit. Public works departments can deploy agency-approved Neighborhood Watch materials in front of residences when properly coordinated with code enforcement and the participating sheriff's office or police department.

NNWI Recommended Placement — Layered Deterrence System

Street layer. Larger signs (18×24″ or 24×36″) at the major entrances to the neighborhood, mounted where they are visible to vehicles entering from arterial roads. This is the perimeter announcement — visitors and would-be offenders know they are entering an actively watched area before they reach the first home.

Home layer. Smaller signs (12×18″ or 18×18″) at interior intersections, plus reflective decals and labels on individual homes, mailboxes, and entry doors. This is the interior reinforcement — the visible presence of watch materials at the home itself signals an alert, networked community to anyone moving through the neighborhood.

Together, these two layers form a structured deterrence system that reduces opportunities for property crime and victimization by making the neighborhood look — and be — actively watched.

NNWI does not provide legal advice on local sign ordinances. Contact your local public works office, your participating sheriff's office, or the National Sheriffs' Association for current jurisdiction guidance.

Custom

How does the custom agency sign design process work, and what is the typical turnaround?

Custom agency signs follow a four-step process:

1. Inquiry — submit your agency name, sign type, sizes, quantity, and any artwork or program details through our Custom Quote form.
2. Proof — our design team prepares a digital proof for your review, typically within 3 to 5 business days.
3. Approval — you confirm or revise the proof. Reasonable revisions are unlimited.
4. Production and shipping — once the proof is approved, production runs 7 to 14 business days depending on quantity, with shipping by FedEx or LTL freight.

Total turnaround for most custom agency orders is 2 to 4 weeks from quote acceptance. See examples in our Agency Sign Portfolio.

How do I verify that NNWI is authorized by the National Sheriffs' Association?

NNWI is the sole authorized commercial provider of National Sheriffs' Association-branded Neighborhood Watch materials.

Our partnership with the NSA originated in 1972, when the Neighborhood Watch program was formally established by the NSA in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Justice.
